Passion Play, wood carvings and other passions: The small holiday community Oberammergau is world-known. Oberammergau owes its reputation not only to the impressing Passion Plays performed in a ten year rhythm since 1634 in the imposing theatre with 4.800 seats. The beautiful art of wood carving, inherited from generation to generation since the middle ages, also contributed to Oberammergau`s popularity. But there is even more to attract visitors from all over the world: the marvellous fairy tale castles of Linderhof and Neuschwanstein, the fantastic countryside and more than 100 kilometres of hiking, X-country and cycle tracks! The river Ammer winding its way through unique nature reserves and moors with a rare flora and fauna. Oberammergau is a treat for the eyes of friends of art and cul-ture. “Lüftlmalerei” i.e. wall paintings can be discovered on many facades on a walk through town. These old opulent pictures, painted in the so-called fresco technique, date back to the 18th century. Oberammergau offers an excellent combination of nature, culture, sports and fun. Holidays in this picturesque area with its attractive prices are very interesting - especially for families!
